Expert Reciprocal Visit

On October 5, a weeklong Expert Reciprocal Visit began at Kakha Bendukidze Campus as part of the University Capacity Building Program (UCBP). Throughout the week, Professor Jennifer Murphy Romig of Emory University School of Law will lead workshops and deliver lectures for Free University of Tbilisi’s leadership, faculty, researchers, and students.
The University Capacity Building Program is funded by the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi and implemented in cooperation with the American Councils for International Education.
The opening remarks were delivered by Marina Karchava, Vice-Rector of Free University of Tbilisi; Harvey Sernovitz, Public Diplomacy Counselor, US Embassy; Professor Jennifer Murphy Romig of Emory University; and Bakur Kvaratskhelia, Executive Director of the American Councils for International Education office in Georgia.
On the first day, guests toured the campus library, museum, laboratories, examination center, Wine Academy and teaching vineyards, Veterinarium Veterinary Clinic, Culinary Academy, dendrological park, and sports facilities. They also visited an exhibition of architecture students’ work at the Campus Gallery.
Following the tour, representatives of Free University met with Professor Jennifer Murphy Romig to discuss the university’s current policy on the use of generative AI in teaching and research, including the challenges and limitations of its implementation. Later that day, Professor Romig led a workshop for law school faculty titled “Tradition, Trends, Techniques, and Transfer: Key Points from 25 Years of Teaching Legal Writing.”
